The forest plays an important role in managing CO2 emissions, as the trees grow they capture CO2 and the image below shows the CO2 captured by the growing forest.

For the forest to thrive, there must be a mixture of old and young trees, overcutting can upset the balance and trigger a forest collapse. The image below shows the age distribution of the forest:
